By Michael Eyibio

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has urged top echelon of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), to rise up to their responsibilities by according priority to the welfare of civil servants.

She gave the charge while addressing members of the Inter-Ministerial Implementation Committee of the Federal Integrated Staff Housing (FISH) programme in Abuja at the weekend.

Dr. Yemi-Esan bemoaned the plight of civil servants, adding they are not doing enough with regards to the welfare of their staff.

She lamented the deplorable state of some estates being occupied by Civil Servants, adding that some of them, lacked portable water, access roads, electricity and means of transportation.

‘‘The state of things in most of the estates is nothing to write home about. No access roads in the estates and yet it is you Civil servants that recommend roads to be constructed in the country’’. she stated

‘‘We are not servicing, if we cannot service ourselves, I am therefore appealing to your conscience to prioritise the welfare of Civil Servants’’ She added

‘‘If this is done very well, the face of the service will change for the better’’.

She therefore urged the committee, consisting of some Permanent Secretaries and Directors, to submit weekly report of their deliberation to her office.
