Ecological Challenges: FG Commissions Completed Projects in FCT

The Federal Government over the week end commissioned three projects at three locations at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Federal Ministry of Science and technology, disclosed in a statement that the projects bordered on erosion control and were funded and executed by the Ecological Fund Office.

The projects are located at Gurku Karu Local Council, the University of Abuja main campus and at Kuje, in Kuje Area Council.

The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barr. Mohammed Abdullahi, who was the special guest and the representative of the Federal Government commissioned the completed projects on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Abdullahi said the projects are in line with President Buhari’s promise that no part of the country would suffer neglect due to its geographical location or political considerations.

The Minister said, “I have no doubts in my mind that this federal government’s intervention will bring a huge relief generally to the community who have for a very long time been stressed by the ecological challenges.”

He further stressed the importance of the project in improving the lives of the communities who are direct beneficiaries.

He said, “The living standards of the people in the community and its environs would be enhanced. This would at the same time reduce dangers to lives and properties associated with erosion and persistent flooding”.   

He expressed assurance and optimism, that the projects will no doubt provide a window of opportunities for economic growth of the communities.

On government’s drive to implement contractual agreements, he said “Let me underscore the present administration’s determination to continue with the implementation of all genuine government policies, agreements and contracts at both national and international Levels”.

Abdullahi charged the beneficiary communities, to protect the projects and ensure that the lifetime of the erosion control projects serve the communities properly.
