Akerele Targets N500m as Support, Revolving Fund for Nigerian Authors

…Unveils N100m insurance scheme, quality packaging

The Chairman, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Abuja Chapter, Mr. Taiwo Akerele, has unveiled N100 million package for members support fund and insurance scheme even as he targets an ambitious N500 million revolving fund to improve writers’ robust packaging, distribution and research on their works.

In a just concluded brainstorming month-end session in Abuja, described as mouth-watering evening for authors resident in FCT, the Chairman while unveiling the N100 million support fund for members, group life insurance and assets valuation scheme, acknowledged that intellectual capital can be quantified into monetary gains for writers and creative people in the pen profession.

He stressed that from 2022, writers in Abuja will have opportunity to draw from the funds for publications, marketing, production and packaging of their books for greater profitability.

In the same vein an insurance firm was also invited to unveil a group life insurance for the chapter members, an initiative that has been described as innovative.

The monthly meeting was characterised by poetry recitation, book reading, drama and dance. The occasion was used to remember out of school children in the North-east.

In addition, the occasion offered the momentum to celebrate the 87th birthday ceremony of Prof. Wole Soyinka and other literary activities.
