FG Closes National Stadium Football Pitch to Domestic Competition

…Sports Ministry, Youth Group Partner on Job Creation

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development on Monday advanced reasons why the football pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja should remain closed to club sides for any domestic competition.

The Director of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Mohammed Manga, in a statement made available to the media said this is in order to keep the main pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in good enough shape for use for international matches of the national teams.

The statement reads: “The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has directed that the stadium be closed to usage by club sides for any domestic competition.

The stadium will henceforth be used only for matches involving the national teams.

This directive takes immediate effect, he added takes immediate effect.

In another development, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Alliance for Youth Nigeria, a group made up of youth friendly organizations have agreed to partner in a bid to foster job employability and creation in the country.

Led on a courtesy visit to the Minister at his office inside the Moshood Abiola National Stadium complex, Abuja by the Coordinator of the group Mr. Shakiru Lawal, who is the Country Human Resource Manager at Nestle Nigeria PLC, expressed their desire to partner with the Ministry for greater impact.

According to Lawal: “The collaborative initiative will strive to make the youth more employable in today’s work space and also support youth entrepreneurship for persons within ages 16-35.”

The Alliance currently comprises Nestle Nigeria, Jobberman, U-Connect HR Limited, UN Global Compact, Nigeria Network and Activate Success.

Dare, commended the members and partners for the positive impact they have had on the society, stating that by focusing their efforts on helping young people to be better prepared to step into the work place, they would be making lasting contributions to the society.
