Canada Pledges to Ease Its Visa Access to Nigerians

…As FG appeals to Ambassador to remove stringent conditions on visa

The Canadian Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. James hristoff on Wednesday pledged the commitment of his country to review some of the conditions in getting visa to Canada so that Nigerians can access Canada with out much difficulties.

This is coming even as the Federal Government of Nigeria has appealed to the Canadian Government to remove stringent conditions in procuring visa for Nigerians to have easy access to their country to boost investment and accelerate economic growth in both countries.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola made the appeal when the High Commissioner alongside his team paid him a courtesy visit in his office on Tuesday, in Abuja.

The Minister solicited the support of the Canadian government in sharing her technological innovations that will promote installation of facilities to monitor movements in Nigeria borders (high seas, lands, railways and schools) for quick responses on security matters that will fast track investment opportunities in Nigeria, he added. 

Speaking earlier, the Canadian High commissioner, James Christoff disclosed that the purpose of the visit was to seek for bilateral cooperation with Nigeria in the areas of Economy, Security,Technology, Education and Training of Immigration Officers on efficient border monitoring for security purposes.

Christoff, further informed that Canadian Government will review some of the conditions in getting visa to Canada so that Nigerians can access Canada with out much difficulties.

The Permanent Secretary, Shuaib Belgore during his remarks stated that the partnership and cooperation of Nigeria and Canadian Government will go a long way towards the development of the two countries and also bringing an end to security challenges in both countries.
