Interior Ministry, ICPC Inaugurate ACTU Members to Raise the Ante Against Corruption

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaib Belgore and the Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, on Thursday inducted 4 new members into the Ministry’s Ant-corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

The members EXTRAORDINAIRE.COM was informed in a statement signed by the Spokesperson in the Ministry, Mr. Afonja Ajibola, said are expected to raise the ante against corruption in the ministry and agencies within it.

The members are replacing those ones who have been retired from service or posted to another ministries.

The Permanent Secretary was represented by the Director Special Duties, Mr. Funsho Alabi while the ICPC Chair was represented by Mr. C. A Obaniyi

Belgore, stated that, as part of the drive against corruption, the Federal Government approved the request of the Commission for the establishment of ACTU in all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

He said “Today, we are all gathered here to witness an official inauguration/induction of new (4) members to replace those that have retired or posted from the ministry.”

The men and women he said have undergone thorough screening and profiling by the anti-corruption agencies before being presented for inauguration.

“It is my utmost believes that they have passed all requisite tests by the ant-corruption bodies before been presented for inauguration into the Unit.” Belgore, added.

The inducted 4 Members of ACTU Unit include: Zainab Yahaya, Head, Eyo Nsa as member, Mamman John and Josephine Ukwedeh also as member.

Belgore, revealed that, the essence of ACTU’s establishment in all MDAs is to minimise and also eradicate corruption totally in our working environment and the society in general, adding that the success of ACTU’s campaign will depends heavily on the sincerity, integrity and commitment of the head of ACTU and it members.

In his remark, the Chairman of ICPC, said he appreciated the Permanent Secretary, management and staff of the ministry for creating time for this inauguration and induction of the reconstituted members of the ACTU.

He revealed that the functions of ACTU includes periodic sensitisation of Staff on and against corruption; examination of the systems, processes and procedures that are prone to Corruption and proffering solutions:conduct of Corruption Risk Assessment to proactively identify Corruption risks among others.

During her welcome address, the Head of the newly inaugurated ACTU, welcomed all the special invited quests to the inauguration and induction of the new members of ACTU in the Ministry.

She stated that the Unit has ensured that there is a Culture of accountability, responsiblity, professionalism among staff of the Ministry and also an improved quality of service delivery in line with institutional goals and Values.

He added that ACTU unit in the ministry has so far assisted in the area of developing a standard to guide the ethical approach to all government transactions since the ministry generates revenue for government.

Dignitaries at the event includes the Director of Legal, Omotese Eva, Onoja Onu Peter, HRM, Mrs. Undie Olivia, General Services, Bello Abdulamajid, PRS others from ICPC are: Barrister Adebimpe from the oath Administrator, Mrs. Adogo Alonyenu, Resource person and Abuo Lawrence, Desk officer.
