…Places Aminat Yusuf on Salary, to Sponsor Law School programme
Emordi: Don’t relegate Aminat to a primary school teacher
As the euphoria over the cerebral graduand Miss Aminat Yusuf, from the Lagos State University continues to gain traction, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has disclosed that Aminat Yusuf, who hailed from Edo State graduating as the best law student from Lagos State University (LASU) with 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) will be placed on salary while she undertakes her Law School programme.
Obaseki, not too long gave automatic employment to Miss Ivie Ojezua, a graduate of History and International Studies from Edo State University, Uzairue, Miss Ohioze Precious Aimalohi, a graduate of Biology and Biotechnology from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Victory Iserihienrhen, a graduate of Industrial Mathematics also from UNIBEN and Isacc Ofuje Oguns, a native of Igarra/Akoko-Edo LGA who made a Second Class Upper in Electrical Engineering, from Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.
Recall that the Lagos State Governor was the first to place a bountiful reward of N10 million to the LASU graduate to breaking the University record in more than 40 years of its existence. This paper reliably gathered that LASU Authority and the Law Faculty are concluding arrangement to retain Aminat in the school as Researcher and Lecturer to be responsible for mentoring young and future Lagosians.
The governor, who was represented by the Head of Service (HOS) Anthony Okungbowa Esq., said other benefits have been approved for the outstanding student.
Meanwhile, reputable Law firms from across the country are said to have indicated interest in the young law prodigy coming to work in their firm.
As the race to who grab Aminat continues, an Abuja Pharmacist and mentor, Mr. vast Emordi, has called on Edo State government not to relegate Aminat to teaching in a primary school as most state governors do.
More often than not, Emordi, argued that after offering automatic employment to good students most governors end up on reengaging on their promises.
He said the LASU best student should be given opportunity to practice and bloom in her law profession.
According to him, “This is an update on our daughter, Aminat Yusuf after the Government of Edo State honoured her in respect of her academic performance in LASU for graduating with a perfect CGPA of 5.00.
“Following this achievement, the government offered her automatic employment and the governor has now approved other things for her beyond the employment.
“The governor has directed that Aminat Yusuf will be sponsored on scholarship for one year in the Nigerian Law School and that the government will be responsible for the provision of all her needs till she completes the programme.”
He added: “The governor also approved that for every month that she will be in law school, she will receive an up-keep allowance equivalent to the salary of a State Counsel, which is almost N200,000 naira.
“This is in recognition of the feat she achieved in LASU. We are proud of her achievement and hope she would join us after her law school programme as we will write to NYSC to ensure that she embarks on her one-year compulsory youth service in the State.”
The Mentee, cautioned the governor not to relegate the record-setting First Class Law graduate, at the Lagos State University (LASU), Miss. Yusuf Aminat, to teaching in a primary school as most state governors do, after offering automatic employment to good students but allow her the opportunity to practice and bloom in her law profession.
Emodi, made the disclosure in an interview in Abuja, also argues that as a lawyer, it would be imperative to allow the young lady practice with the judiciary or be mentored by renown legal practitioners or jurists.
This statement is coming at the heels of the offer of automatic employment into the State’s public service by the Edo State government to Miss Yusuf.
According to him, although Yusuf is from Edo state, her emergence as the best ever graduate at LASU with a 5.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in the institution’s Law Degree Programme, is a feat that should be celebrated nationwide as such, she should not be relegated to any remote village school or deviated from the legal practice.
He argued further that, though teaching in a primary school would be a good idea if she had studied education related courses as she would not only be a good reseacher but a worthy mentor to her pupils and school.
He pressed that she should immediately drafted into a proper mentorship programme that will allow her blossom and shine.
