The Biotechnology Society of Nigeria (BSN), the umbrella arm of Nigerian scientists and professionals spread across specialized fields of study using modern scientific research has insisted that the deployment of biotechnology tools is the way to go if Nigeria is to quickly overcome the prevailing biting hunger challenge, food and malnutrition challenge.

Available statistics showed that more than 2.3 billion people across the globe are currently challenged by hunger, malnutrition and outright starvation.

Recall that the worsening food insecurity triggered the declaration of state of emergency in Nigeria’s food sector.

In the meantime, BSN in providing solution to this overarching dilemma has concluded arrangement hold its 35th annual Conference from tomorrow Sunday 27 to Thursday 31, with the theme “Improving Nigeria’s Economic Resilience Through Innovative Biotechnology.”

In an information channel made by the Open Forum for Biotechnology Biotechnology (OFAB) during the weekend, Sarah Iliya Mela, Information Officer OFAB, reiterated that BSN is a professional and scientific association that promotes biotechnological activities to positively impact nations’ aspirations for food security, improved healthcare delivery, a clean environment and sustainable economic growth.

According to her, these tasks are achieved through the promotion of biotechnology education, research, and development, and commercialization of biotechnology products and services to drive the economic growth of the country.

She further added: “The prospect of the conference is to create ample visibility for all organizing partners and stakeholders in addition to providing the opportunity for biotechnologists to network and forge collaborative research initiatives that will contribute to the advancement of biotechnology.

“It shall also serve as a platform for biotechnologists to share experiences aimed at ensuring global best practices in their respective areas of specialization.”

However, the conference will also provide biotechnologists with the opportunity to showcase their research prowess and learn from the research activities of their peers.

In addition, the auspicious event will help to advance the collective vision of organizing partners to nurture outstanding and aspiring young biotechnologists.
