…UMAHI’s TRAIL-BLAZING PARADIGM RESONATES

By DeleOgbodo

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Works on Friday stated very strongly that the Director of Finance and Accounts (DFA), Mr. Yusuf Dahiru Girei, in the Ministry has not disobeyed any of its extant rules even as it added that the Director has fully complied with government’s directive to proceed on posting to another Ministry.

His new base (Ministry) was however not disclosed to discerning public.

The Director of Information and Communications in the Ministry, Mrs. Blessing Lere-Adams, averred in a statement made available to the media (Friday night) however reiterated that the Director of Finance and Account (DFA) in the Ministry of Works, Yusuf Dahiru Girel, has fully complied with Federal Government’s directive to proceed on posting to another Ministry.

In defence, the Ministry’s Spokesperson hinted that the information going round in the media that the former DFA of Works has defiled the Federal Government directive on posting is misleading and baseless.

The posting of staff by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) is an internal issue within the Federal Civil Service and no staff has been reported to have refused that directive at the Ministry till date, Lere-Adam, stated boldly.

She said: “Members of the public are hereby urged to disregard the information making the round within some sections of the media that there was a drama as to the effect of refusal of posting by any staff within the Ministry.”

However, the news about Girei’s posting from the Ministry and his alleged ‘sit-tightism’ as reported in some media channels (NOT EXTRAORDINAIRE) may have sparked some fuss and generated controversy especially as the new Minister, Engr. David Umahi, since assumption of duty has hit the ground running with trail blazing paradigms, disruption causing shift in the old order.

Recall that Umahi, while briefing journalists after a recent inspection in South-east expressed bitterness over a road contract awarded for N15 billion which in his estimation as Engineer should not be less that N4 billion.

With more stunning developments and revelations unfolding in the road sector, the Minister has consistently called on contractors to put the fear of God in the dealings and not inadvertently piling blames on politicians for the failure and collapse of the country’s infrastructure.
