SERVICE DELIVERY: HOSF TASKS MINISTERIAL AIDES ON HARMONY WITH CIVIL SERVANTS

The Federal Government through the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF) on Tuesday called for a harmonious relationship between Ministerial Aides and Civil Servants in the workplace for maximum productivity and service delivery for national development.

Speaking at sensitization workshop organized by the HoS, in Abuja, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr Yemi Folashade-Esan, reiterated the overarching imperative for synergy between the aides of the Ministers who are representatives of the President and the civil servants to achieve effective service delivery.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Service Policy and Strategic Office (SPSO), Dr. Deborah Odoh, she said the sensitization was necessary to ensure the implementation of President Bola Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“In line with the vision of the President, Yemi-Esan, said government is committed to ensuring that the required synergy and harmonious working relationship exists between the office of Ministers, who are the representatives of Mr. President and the civil servants under the administrative leadership of the Head of Service and her transformative permanent secretaries.

She said: “As you all know, our country is at a critical point in its journey towards national development and it is our responsibility to support our principals to ensure that the much-needed policies and programmes are effectively and efficiently implemented in order to secure the future we desire of a Nigeria that is able to maximize its full economic and developmental potential.

“This sensitization workshop has therefore been designed to further build up capacity to support the achievement of each ministry’s mandate, strategic objectives and targets,” she stated.

The participants who are Special Advisers to the Ministers across various ministries, were taken through  the revised public service rules, financial regulations, Public Procurement Act, ethical codes of conduct and the public service, administrative procedure, and management reforms.

The training programme, the Head of Service, added would equip participants with the necessary information and skills that will guide their day-to-day activities and facilitate a smooth working relationship between ministerial aides and civil servants.

“The overall goal of this sensitization workshop is to promote synergy and improved harmony in the workplace for maximum productivity,” she stated. 

Adamu Ladan, an aide to Minister of Housing and Urban Development, said the workshop was critical for the ministerial aides to be abreast with the rules and procedures that guide them, first on how to conduct their activities with their principals and the civil servants. 

He added that they were also sensitised on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and how to integrate them in the various Ministries and departments such that there could be synergy between the agenda what the Ministers are doing. 

Also speaking at the sideline of the event, one of the resource persons, Dr. Madu Uba, who spoke on Ethical Conduct and Administrative Procedure in the Federal Public Service, warned participants against involvement in unwholesome and unethical practices that could bring down their principals.
