…Aviation stakeholders brainstorm on QMS imperative

As the harmattan season sets into Nigeria’s air space, the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded arrangement to deploy e-flight folder for safe flight across the airports.
The e-folder has capability to generate simulation for real time flight briefing and emergency weather information for safe flight.
Meanwhile, aviation stakeholders at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja have concluded their Quality Management System (QMS) meeting with the Director General and CEO of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike.
The DG/CEO assured stakeholders of NiMet’s commitment to delivering high-quality meteorological services that meet the specific needs of the sector.
Special Adviser to the DG on Media to the DG, Dr. Uche Nworah, in a statement made available to EXTRAORDINAIRE, said, the e-folder will give: “Access to Real-time Flight Briefing Weather Information, Accurate Flight Data, Reduces Planning & Briefing Time, Automatic Data Collection from Multiple Sources Removing Manual Processes, Massive Reduction in Paper Printing, Easily Share Weather Information to other Crew and Departments, Post-Flight Storage, Auditing & Analysis of e-Flight Folder Data and Better Compliance and Auditing Capability
At the QMS meeting which held on Monday, the DG who was represented by his Special Assistant, Mr. Asaniyan Taiwo, said the ongoing modernization of NiMet infrastructure and investment in state-of-the-art equipment and technology will improve weather observation, forecasting, and dissemination capabilities.
He highlighted the ongoing capacity building of staff through training and retraining. “For effective and improved service delivery, MoUs have been signed with local and international partners to deliver more resilient and customer-centric NiMet products and services for a sustainable aviation sector and safety of air navigation in Nigeria.”
The Head of Quality Management System (QMS) at NiMet, Mr. Usman Abdulrahman, listed the discussions at the meeting as follows; The need for airline pilots to attend briefing in the flight crew briefing rooms (FCBR) to plan their flights, training of airlines dispatch officers on basic meteorology course to improve and strengthen their roles in flight planning and dispatch, introduction of robust weather application to improve access to weather information and retrieval of aviation products and services, and finally the need to procure the aviation terminal information system (ATIS) to reduce the workload of the air traffic control (ATC).
