The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Surv. Adeyemi Adebomehin, has called on Surveyors across the country to equip themselves with current technology (ICT), and the current ongoing reforms within the system so as to evolve the overarching optimal service delivery to Nigerians.
The Head, Information and Public Relations, Mr. Henry David, at the Office, in a statement made available to the media, said the SGOF acknowledged the imperative of career development in the sector to keep surveyors abreast with global best practice and service delivery.
According to him, these aid them their career development, professional enhancement and authority in their chosen field.
The OSGOF, David, said made the disclosure at his office in Abuja, at the instance of the Zonal Directors and Chief Resident Surveyors with the theme, The Future of Work: ‘Adapting to Changes in the Geospatial Ecosystem and the Public Service, the event took place at SURCON Chambers during the week.’
Adebomehin, in his welcome address said: “We are taking a detour from the way we used to do things before now and one of the salient issues before us is, what we were taught in the school is not what its appealing to now.”
While addressing the surveyors at the meeting, he said “We have equipment now that predetermine our locations, that predetermine our position, and all what we are saying is that job which belong to you as a surveyor, which belong to me as a surveyor, how can you impact this on humanity, keep all those data, keep all those Information and use it to give us decision on needs.”
He said: ”The breakdown is that we have technological advances as one of the future of our work which we all have to go and equip ourselves with, the second one is that you should live up to expectations when you are representing us in the state, please, do that for us.” he advised the participants
Adebomehin, gave further advice: “Wherever we find ourselves we should always keep to the civil service reform so that we can take the opportunity within the system, in order not to be relegated to the background.”
Earlier, the Director, Infrastructure Surveys at the Office Surv. Onyekwere Nwogu, in his opening remarks said ‘Surveyor General is doing everything necessary within the budgetary provision to revamp the Zonal Headquarters and field offices as this is evident in the completed and the ongoing physical development projects across the nation.”
He explained that it is worthy of note that Surveyor General was very passionate about capacity building, several staff members through sponsorship are undergoing post graduate and Master’s degree programmes at African Regional Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (Afrigist).
Onyekwere, urge the Zonal Directors and the Chief Resident Surveyors to see the conference as catalyst for a positive transformation, adding: ”Productivity is not about achieving more but achieving better result.“ he said.
Also in a remark, Sylvester Okafor, a director in the OSGOF office who was also present at the event enjoined the Chief Resident Surveyors to be good ambassador of the SGOF, he said “You are representing SGOF in your state and that is why you have to build yourself because you will also benefit from it after service.”
To increase the knowledge base of the participants, they were enlightened on civil service rule, professionalism and ICT.

One after the other even as the Zonal Director in charge of North-east, Surv. Magaji Datti, presented his remarks and also gave a vote of thanks, adding: “The conference has prepared us to do our work efficiently and it shall be so sustained and we shall take the messages down to our different zones.”
