The Federal Government through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has reaffirmed its committment to building a robust and responsive policy framework to support the growth of Nigeria’s Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) sector
Towards the overarching objective, the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI) on Wednesday onvened a high-level stakeholder engagement to accelerate the revitalization of Nigeria’s CTG sector.
This pivotal event, themed “Co-Creating Solutions to Grow Nigeria’s CTG Industry,” brought together key players from across the value chain to deliberate on the sector’s future.
The Ministry aims to restore the CTG industry’s position as a major contributor to job creation, economic resilience, and industrial transformation.
Stakeholders emphasized the importance of collective action to overcome long-standing challenges, such as raw material shortages and outdated technology.
The Ministry is committed to building a robust and responsive policy framework to support the sector’s growth.
The engagement featured updates on the National CTG Policy implementation, insights from the Islamic Development Bank-sponsored study tour, and a status report on the CTG Fund.
“If this sector works, it works for everyone and for our country,” said Senator John Owan Enoh, Honourable Minister of State for Industry. “Today marks a significant step in our collective journey… We believe that with genuine collaboration, open dialogue, and a shared sense of purpose, we can unlock the immense potential of the CTG sector,” added Ambassador Nuru Abba Rimi, Permanent Secretary of FMITI.
This engagement represents a bold move toward consensus building, innovation, and the transformation of Nigeria’s CTG industry into a globally competitive force, with potential job creation of over 1.4 million annually in the cotton/textile sector.
Permanent Secretary of FMITI, Ambassador Nuru Abba Rimi, echoed the call for collective action, highlighting the sector’s historic role in Nigeria’s economy and the urgent need to overcome long-standing challenges such as raw material shortages, outdated technology, inadequate infrastructure, and policy fragmentation.
“Today marks a significant step in our collective journey,” he noted. “We believe that with genuine collaboration, open dialogue, and a shared sense of purpose, we can unlock the immense potential of the CTG sector.”
The Director Press and PR, in the Ministry, Dr. Adebayo Thomas, while also shedding light on the conversation and additional information made available to the media, said the engagement also featured updates on the National CTG Policy implementation, insights from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) sponsored study tour, and a status report on the CTG Fund as key components of the roadmap towards industrial renewal.
Goodwill messages from various stakeholders reflected a shared optimism about the Minister’s dedication and a renewed hope for the sector’s revival.
Many expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a platform designed to drive real change.
