The Project Coordinator (PC), Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, has stated that the Project is setting the foundation for innovative research, following the construction of the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER).
This is in line with the ongoing soil and shoreline remediation and mangrove restoration projects, all of which it will be opening to students of the Federal University of Environment and Technology.

The Project Coordinator, spoke yesterday at the maiden matriculation ceremony of FUET Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, noting that the gesture is in line with HYPREP’s mandate to build capacity in environmental management, thus engendering cutting-edge research in environmental science and allied areas.
According to the PC: ”I thank President Bola Tinubu for establishing this very important university in an era that is globally referred to as Anthropocene- characterised by significant, long-lasting impact on earth’s ecosystems and geology.

”HYPREP (as you know) is responsible for the remediation of impacted lands and wetlands, and the restoration of mangroves – One of our responsibilities is to build capacity in environmental management. So our mandate aligns with this university.
”We are already building the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration (CEER)- that will serve as an international hub for research in environment for development. It has two faculties; a Faculty for Research and Development that will serve as a postgraduate hub for cutting-edge innovative research in environmental remediation and management. The other is the Faculty of Vocational Studies.
”What that means is that we are already setting the foundation for innovative postgraduate research for this university – the Centre and the University being in Ogoni, we will work very closely.”
The PC further assured the university that HYPREP will open its project sites to students, providing them with hands-on training opportunities, this, he added is part of HYPREP’s internship programme to build human capacity in the region.
”I want to assure you that we will provide training opportunities for the students of this University.
“We will open our research centre, and all our remediation sites to students as well. Students of this University will have the opportunity to intern with HYPREP, in addition to using our sites for their research for development”, he announced.
Zabbey, while congratulating FUET for the feat, offered to voluntarily teach the sophomores, and linking theory to practice.
