By Dele Ogbodo

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on Friday said the Commission has in the meantime and temporarily suspending the issuance of new licences for its Interconnect Exchange Licence, Mobile Virtual Network Operator Licence and Value Added Service Aggregator Licence.

According to the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said the temporary suspension of the three (3) categories of the communications licences has become necessary to enable the Commission conduct a thorough review of critical key areas within these categories.

According to him, this includes the current level of competition, market saturation and current market dynamics.

The Commission, he added is backed up with the statutory powers conferred on it through the Communications Act (NCA) 2003 to grant and renew licences, promote fair competition and to develop the Communications industry.

Muoka, said, during the suspension period which commences from 17th of May, 2024, new application for the three categories of licences will not be accepted.

“This is without prejudice to pending applications before the Commission which will be considered on their merits.

“Any enquiries or clarifications in respect of this Suspension Notice should be forwarded to: licensing@ncc.gov.ng.” He said.
