The National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion (NL), Major General Abdulmalik Jubril (Rtd) on Thursday, said the Legion will soon change its name to Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN).
The National Chairman made the disclosure while addressing the 36 States Chairmen who came from across the states for the meeting, stakeholders and the media at the organization’s 60TH National Council Meeting held at the Conference Hall of Agura Hotel in Abuja.
Jubril, said a draft of the Bill to change the name of Nigerian Legion to Veterans Federation of Nigeria (VFN) has been forwarded to the appropriate quarters for consideration.
He said: “we are proud of the strides we have made in catering for the welfare of veterans in Nigeria. Our efforts and achievements reflect our unwavering commitment to supporting those who have served our nation with honour and valour.
“We stand on the shoulders of giants reflecting on six decades of dedication , sacrifice and service to our beloved nation. As we mark the 60years of our rich history, we also look forward to a future filled with promise and progress.”
While granting press interview at the sideline of the council meeting, the Chairman said NL has attended series of seminars organized by their sister agencies and Federal Ministry of Defence to give advice to the military, he said the essence of collaboration is for the men in service to leverage on their experience as ex-service men.
The Chairman said “As we mark 60 years of our existence through hard work, dedication and service to the Nigerian veteran, we propose to celebrate this milestone with a series of activities across the six geopolitical zones of the federation , culminating in a grand finale in Abuja in June 2025. “This celebration will not only honour our past but also inspire future generations to uphold the values and legacy of the Nigerian veterans.”
