WORKS MINISTRY SETS PERFORMANCE TARGETS/TEMPLATE FOR DIRECTORS/STAFF

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Works on Thursday said it has developed a weekly Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as a benchmark for assessing it’s Directors and staff performance for optimum productivity and efficient service delivery.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Yakubu Kofarmata, while speaking at the launch of the Performance Management System (PMS), acknowledged that the strategy was directed by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF).

He said: “The PMS was initiated by the OHCSF as part of its efforts to reinvigorate the service developed the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan FCSSIP 2017-2020 and its successor plan FCSSIP 2021-2025.

According to the PS, the Ministry has keyed into the objectives and in its desire to implement PMS has developed the appropriate Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for all departments.

“Permanent contract has been signed between the Permanent Secretary and Directors/Heads of Units as well as uploaded the Performance Contracts of all Staff in the Headquarters.

“Presently, the total number of users on the ministry’s Dash Board stood at 962 staff with exactly 822 staff signed their performance contract and the number of staff that has assigned supervisors stood at 457.

Koformantu, encouraged members of the Ministry to fully queue in the process with dedication, adding: “Let this day be a consistently shared responsibility to deliver quality and excellence service to drive the Ministry’s Vision and Mission.

According to him, performance management is crucial for organizations seeking to optimize productivity, retention, and success.

“By integrating goal-setting, monitoring, evaluation, and development, organizations empower employees to excel, driving business results and sustainability.” He added.

The Plan according to him consists of 6 major pillars which Performance Management System (PMS) is included, adding, today’s event marks an important step in our Ministry’s commitment in the implementation of FCSSIP2021-2025, for the enhancement of performance, transparency, and accountability in Governance for an improved service delivery.

“As you are aware, Thursday of every week has been designated as PMS Day Service wide where Employee Performance will be reviewed, assessed, and improved upon the Ministry’s ongoing tasks and projects.

“This initiative is designed to ensure that we remain aligned with our goals, monitor our progress, and address any challenges promptly, thereby ensuring an improved performance.” The PS, said.

According to him, performance management is a systematic process that enables organizations to achieve their strategic objectives by aligning individual and team performance with organizational goals.

“It is a continuous cycle of planning, monitoring, evaluating, and improving employee performance to drive business success.” He said.
