Yemi-Esan Urges Civil Servants to Demand for Improved Service

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, has urged civil servants especially in the Federal Public Service to demand for improved service delivery as a right.

She gave the charge while inaugurating the newly inaugurated members of the Ministerial Servicom Committee in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, OHCSF, to ensure that effective and efficient service delivery is promoted nationwide over the weekend in Abuja.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties Office – OHCSF, Mrs. Roberts Ibiene Patricia, Dr. Yemi-Esan, underscores that the initiative has resulted in the intensification of efforts towards promoting best practices, both at the workplace and in the wider society, as well as encouraged public officials to emulate and adopt models of excellence and innovation.

The disclosure was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Obi Obinna Christopher, on behalf of the Director of Press in the Office, quoted the Head of service as saying: “In order to translate government’s agenda into action, the Office is surmounting the challenges leading to organisational renewal as contained in the SERVICOM Charter.

 She added that mechanisms have been put in place to improve efficiency and enhance the performance of Civil Servants in the face of current global dynamics, especially the new normal. “New policies, processes and procedures have been introduced into the art of governance,” she emphasised.

She noted that the OHCSF, in particular and the Federal Civil Service, in general, have since realized that it is through technology that work processes can be simplified towards ensuring that output and service meets quality and standards, adding that “it aims at promoting quality service delivery, in line with the cardinal objectives of SERVICOM and our drive towards the delivery of efficient, productive, incorruptible and citizen-centred services to Nigerians.

While congratulating the Members, the Head of Service asked them to note that management repose confidence in them to effectively deliver on their Terms of Reference by mandating staff in their respective departments and units to render courteous, timely, efficient and professional services that will meet the high expectations of the Nigerian public.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties Office – OHCSF, Mrs. Roberts Ibiene Patricia enjoined members of the Committee to view themselves as a “Service Delivery Vanguard,” as well as front-line staff towards ensuring prompt and timely response to official matters, at all times. 

She further noted that the OHCSF as the epicentre of the Federal Civil Service has a critical role to play in the delivery of efficient, effective, transparent and timely services that will propel overall socio-economic development of the country.

In her keaddress at the occasion, the National Coordinator, SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnenna Akajemeli, said the inauguration of the committee marked a critical step in the attempt to sustain service delivery in the OHCSF. She added that Servicom is an initiative which drives and promotes efficiency in all MDAs.

Mrs Akajemeli further stated that the Committee must ensure that a world- class Service is entrenched for accelerated national development.
