Aviation Safety: NiMet Set to Install Weather Observatory System for Asaba Airport

In its determined and unwavering commitment towards rendering safety services through climate and weather observation across the country’s airports, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has pledged to install an Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS), in furtherance of the development of the Asaba airport.

Assuring the management of the Asaba Airport Company (AAC) of NiMet’s commitment towards safety of the nation’s airports, the Director General (DG/CEO) of NiMet, Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu in his address said, the agency pledges to further strengthen the existing relationship with the Asaba Airport Company in order to exemplifies the importance of the Ministry of Aviation Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.

He reinforces NiMet’s commitment to liaise with AAC through its pledged to ensure the organisation’s provision of adequate support at the airport.

The Managing Director of the Asaba Airport Company, Mr. Christophe Penninck, earlier, had sought NiMet’s specialized technical assistant owing to the identified need at the airport.

While reiterating his support for Nigeria’s aviation development, Matazu, disclosed that the agency has partnered with different private organisations in order to mitigate the challenges posed by the climate change around the world, hence NiMet is focused on achieving the set goals and objective of the PPP projects.

He said: “Public Private Partnership is one key area the ministry is very passionate about and currently implementing key PPP project.”

The NiMet boss explained that the agency will make additional plans to establish a pilot briefing room, provide necessary equipment, staff as well as the aforementioned installation of a generic automated weather observation station.

In attendance at the event were the Director of Weather Forecasting Service, Engr. Mailadi Yusuf, Director of Engineering and Technical Services, Engr. Bashir Sa’ad, Director of Finance and Account, Hamza Sanni, Director Research and Training, Prof. Effiom Oku.
