Ex-Chief of Defence Staff, Irabor, Dr. Ogunbiyi, Others Bag NSE Fellows Award

The Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office (CMO), Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), Dr Marcus Ogunbiyi, the former Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor and 116 other distinguished Nigerians have been conferred with the Award of Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE).

The award is in recognition of their accomplishments and wealth of experience, as well as outstanding contributions in engineering and administration in the country.

Dr. Ogunbiyi, an agricultural engineer and Permanent Secretary at the Head of Service Office was one of the conferees’ at the 2023 quarterly dinner/conferment of fellowship held recently in Abuja. 

Part of Ogunbiyi’s achievements include authoring a number of scientific research papers published in various local and international journals on rice and horticultural crops production and processing.

Hitherto, he was a corporate member of the NSE, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE), and a registered member of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). 

In an elaborate Lecture delivered by the Guest Speaker and Founder of Naira Metrics, Mr. Ugo Obi-Chukwu on the theme: “The Importance of Subsidy Removal and it’s Economic Benefits to Nigeria” the gains of subsidy removal and the need to hold government, at all levels, accountable for the judicious use of subsidy gains for socio-ecomonic development of the nation, were emphasised.

The history of the Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of engineers dates back to February 16, 1958, when a group of young Nigerian Graduate Engineers and students in the United Kingdom were inaugurated at the Nigeria House in London.

It was incorporated as a limited liability company by guarantee and not having a share capital, in 1967.

The original Memorandum and Articles of Association were amended on December 1, 1998. Like some of its counterparts in other professions, the Society has distinguished itself through various progressive and imaginative programmes to becoming an avenue for the professional development of its members, also the technological development of the country, in general.

Ogunbiyi, who was joined by his family to receive the award, expressed gratitude for the recognition given to him by the NSE, while pledging to do more in the field of engineering . 

Amongst the Conferees’ of the Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) are notable Industrialists and public servants such as the  Engr. E. C. Udeh, Engr. Abdul Kareem Suleiman Hassan and Engr. Olusegun Oladayo Kuteyi and many others.
