Sudden Demise Akure Reps Member, 38th Anniversary of Killings of Akure Sons Set Town in Tension

By Seun Adams

The sudden demise of a prominent House of Representatives member, representing Akure North and South Constituency, Mr. Adedayo Omolafe, popularly known as ‘Expensive’ around the early hours of this morning (Monday) which coincided with the killings of prominent Akure sons including a publisher and politician, Chief Olaiya Fagbamigbe, as a result of the declaration of election result in favour of Chief Akin Omoboriowo of NPN as against UPN in 1983 has placed the Ondo State Capital under a sort of tension and suspense as presently being observed by SHARPEDGENEWS Checks.

Checks around Edo Lodge in Oke-Jebu Quarters where the House of Representatives member lived portrayed anguish, wailing and mourning in the early hours of today.

Omolafe, who is a grassroot politician is said to be highly loved by his people was said to have been sighted by residents around his Constituency Office on Sunday looking hale and hearty.

Residents who spoke under anonymity said he may probably have succumbed to death due to complications associated with Cardiac arrest because of his high blood pressure.

His political trajectory spanned through serving at various times as supervisory councilor in charge of his ward in 1996 in the old Akure LGA and subsequently became the Vice Chairman of the Council and then proceeded to become the Chairman of Akure South LGA from 2003.

Because of reliability and hardwork in the party, former President Goodluck Jonathan, appointed him as SURE-P Chairman in the state.

The death of the prominent politician in the month of August has further thrown Akure’s political climate in suspense especially coming on the heels of the same month of August in 1983 where political killings of opposition politicians including hotel owner, Chief Agbayewa were burnt alive with properties worth several millions set on fire by political thugs known to be ochestrated by the then ruling UPN, headed by the late Chief Micheal Adekunle Ajasin.

Also, checks around families of victims of that unjust killings and destruction of property showed lingering pains dotted with viles and hatred for perpetrators of that massacre, giving validity to the tensed atmosphere capable of sparking reprisal attack.
