Deteriorating Visibility: NiMet Urges Airlines, Road Users to Take Pre-caution

Within a time, space of 2 weeks, November 20th, after the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) issued warning on the emerging reduction in atmospheric visibility occasioned by emerging dust haze from Chad Republic, the Weather and Climate expert, has again declared that further transportation of fresh dust haze will worsen the atmospheric visibility across Nigeria.

NiMet, has therefore warned that within the next 6 hours, airlines operators and transporters should therefore take precaution in their operations for safety.

The statement reads:

Synopsis: Currently dust in suspension over Chad Republic and Niger Republic. This fresh dust is expected to be transported into the Northern parts of Nigeria, therefore, a further reduction in horizontal visibility is anticipated.

Forecast: The dust is expected to be transported into Nigeria within the next 6 hours from the time of issue of this alert, it will further deteriorate the horizontal visibility over most parts of the North to 4000-2000metres, localized reduction in visibility to less than 1000 metres is expected in places like Maiduguri, Nguru, Potiskum, Dutse, Gombe, Yola, Bauchi, Katsina and Kano. 

Caution: Flight operations are expected to be disrupted; therefore, airline operators are required to collect their flight folders and adhere to regulations, especially at aerodromes in the Northern parts of the country.

Road users are advised to drive slowly and carefully due to poor visibility during this period. 

People with respiratory ailment should take caution and reduce their outdoor activities.
